Job Description Job Description Argus Labs is building the next generation of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games by empowering players with the extensive freedom to build, extend, and influence the game worlds they inhabit. Our approach is centered around World Engine, our state-of-the-art onchain game server framework. World Engine leverages a novel sharded rollup blockchain architecture, which allows games to use smart contracts for user-generated content (UGC) while scaling to tens of thousands of concurrent users without compromising performance. To date, World Engine is the most performant blockchain designed from the ground up for games and has been used in production for games like Dark Frontier, processing 700K+ player transactions within a week. Actual base pay is dependent upon various factors, including work experience, location, and market demand. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and benefits. Responsibilities * Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable and performant game server systems. * Implement server-side logic for real-time online multiplayer games. * Design and develop toolings to simplify client-server state synchronization and communication. * Contribute to the development of World Engine, our open-source horizontally scalable game server framework. * Optimize game server performance, reliability, and security. * Develop tools and automation scripts to aid in-game server deployment and operations. * Collaborate with game designers, artists, and client engineers. * Stay up-to-date on the latest game server technologies and architectures. Requirements * Experience writing backend services in Go, Java, or Javascript. * Deep understanding of multiplayer networking architecture and different client-server synchronization strategies. * Experience in Unity and C#. * Familiarity with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK). * Proficiency in utilizing APM and other observability toolings to diagnose backend services issues and optimize performance. * Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Action, Jenkins, etc). Nice to have * Experience building and shipping an MMO game. * Experience writing high-performance multithreaded game servers from scratch. * Experience with data-oriented programming. * Experience building and maintaining distributed and fault-tolerant systems with production workload. * Deep understanding of the Ethereum blockchain.
